DARK HORSE

This is the 1st piece of my masculinity collection. 

I wanted to try out something that has a strong masculine energy. 

Colours out of my comfort zone, I’d never painted with the colour black before. 

It had a whole other painting underneath but when I looked at it, it was not at all what I had in my mind, the colours were not what I intended to paint, so I painted over it. 

Dark Horse was a bit of a wild card painting for me. I knew I wanted to try something completely different, something that challenged me as an artist, something more masculine that would be the start of a new artistic direction for me, as I launched my new “Masculinity” collection.

Now all I had in mind when starting this painting was that it was for a “bachelor” or bachelor pad, and so I set off, intending to paint something in the same way I normally did, but as luck would have it, this painting was very different. 

It was just after I had finished my artwork and stepped back to take it all in, that I realised it wasn’t the painting I was supposed to paint, something was off, something was missing. And so, rather than start again, I simply painted over it, bringing in bolder colours, strong golds and bronzes, maroon reds and black, and soon, The Dark Horse revealed itself.

So named, because it caught me by surprise in its depth and striking beauty. An artwork that came out of nowhere to steal both my heart and that of its new owner. A painted canvas that not only stirs emotions deep in the soul, but also calls out to you, to step up and embrace life in a way that embraces freedom and prosperity.
