CORAL FOREST

The second painting I ever painted. 

All I knew is I wanted dark forest green with coral. I was very set on this colour combo.

I tried something with a little more “structure” and this is where my style truly began. I knew at this point there was nothing else out there like this. A moment I felt very proud and confident with my artistic abilities. 

From there the paintbrush and colourwheel In my head came up with the rest. 

Growing up, my parents used to take me exploring in the lush forests near my childhood home, looking for trinkets and beautiful rock formations deep within the forest, and something in this has stayed with me to this day, some magical element of the dark green forest that I felt compelled to combine with coral, and so I started painting.

And being the second painting I had ever attempted, I was awestruck when I was finished, realising that it was almost like something inside of me had captured an element of nature in a way I had never seen before. It was almost like the soul of both the deep sea coral forests and rainforests, both of which we are destroying at a rapid rate, had been captured in a way that spoke to their immortality, their lifeforce that would continue long after we are gone.

Thus, Coral Forest was born, an unusual pairing of ideas and memories that seemed to combine in a way I still can’t truly put into words.
